Description

Embrace the Difference is an on-going project through the Center for Intercultural Community and Engagement centered on creating a space for open conversation and shared learning about race, culture, and ethnicity. In the 2014-2015 academic school year, India Reynolds and Raquel J. Capellan were the recipients of the Carl Hitchner Social Justice fellowship through the Center for Intercultural and Community Engagement. The project featured a series of three interactive workshops designed to encourage students to connect and educate each another through shared experiences. The workshops were named Defining Things, Moving Forward, and Addressing Issues. Each workshop dealt with conversing about what we identify as racially, breaking down complex social issues, and providing solutions for them. This presentation will feature Embrace the Difference's initial impact on campus, recent quotes from students speaking about solutions to societal challenges, and how we are planning to continue the project after graduation.
