This discussion will be explaining the Hilsch-Ranque Vortex Tube and show experimental data about the model that was built for this experiment. In 1928, George Ranque invented the device accidentally while he was working on a vortex pump. It was later discovered that the vortex tube could be used on train cars to keep water warm and cold for passengers. The tube itself uses the compressed air along with the shape of the tube to create a vortex of air in which the air on the outside of the vortex is subjected to much more friction, making it much warmer. This air is then funneled out on side of the device. The air in the middle of the vortex gives off heat to the outer air, making the cold air come out the other side of the device.
