Description
As an individual who early on was diagnosed with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder, I have had many challenging experiences throughout my own education. As I work toward my degree in Early Childhood Education, I am now faced with a new set of challenges to overcome as a teacher. I am curious to learn how my experiences and skill set will shape my teaching practice, as well as my impact of fellow educators and students alike. My study examines my own growth and development throughout my student teaching placement, particularly with regards to my disability. I have collected and evaluated many records and reflections that explore the challenges that poor organizational skills and inattention present me in my classroom. More importantly, I have examined what strategies I have needed to develop, and how these strategies might affect the experience and education of my students. This study was guided by the overall essential question: How does background knowledge of ADHD affect my teaching practice?
